If you haven’t tried microdermabrasion, please stop reading this article and book an appointment right now. Trust me, you will thank me later!
What actually is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion (microderm) is a procedure that basically sands away the top layer of your skin. By damaging (trust me, your skin will thank you) the outer layer of your skin, you’re actually stimulating cell production in the deeper (more important) layers of the skin.
Why do I need it?
The great thing about microderm is that it will benefit almost any skin type. Whether you’re fighting dark spots, aging, patchy skin tones or even dry skin, microderm is the solution.
By polishing away the outer layer of dead skin, microdermabrasion helps to boost collagen production, which leaves you with fresh, healthy skin.
Booking in a microdermabrasion session a few days before a big event will leave you glowing and refreshed, and make a great base for makeup application.
Probably the biggest benefit of microdermabrasion for me is my skin’s newfound ability to absorb skincare products following the treatment. This allows products to penetrate deeper into the skin, which means you waste less of your expensive ass skincare products and get better results.
What NOT to do
Whatever you do, do not buy one of those at-home microdermabrasion kits! Although microderm doesn’t actually hurt, it is a pretty invasive procedure and it’s definitely not worth the risk of damaging your skin to try to save a few bucks. After getting professionally microderm-ed three or four times, I considered myself an expert (WRONG) and tried an at-home treatment. I ended up with a bunch of bruises on my skin from poor technique, AND found the results to be minimal compared to previous professional sessions. If you can’t justify getting this treatment done professionally, seriously do not risk doing it yourself, it’s not worth it.
What I do
I personally get my microdermabrasion during a longer facial, but you can just pay for the microderm bit. My facial is pretty high-tech, with LED light therapy and sonophoresis, so combining this with microdermabrasion leaves me with the most amazing skin ever.
